Barnlog is the largest, most comprehensive equestrian database in the world. It's a place where you can find public information on millions of horses, riders, barns, venues, and competitions dating back decades. When you create an account, you can also follow horses and people to get notifications and updates on their performance in competitions in real-time.
Barnlog is open to everyone. Whether you're a horse owner, a trainer, a rider, or just a fan of the sport, you can use Barnlog to find information on horses, riders, and competitions.
Yes. Downloading Barnlog, creating an account, searching the database, and following and watching horses and people are all free, and there is no subscription.
The only thing we charge for is identity verification, which carries a one-time fee shown to you in the app before you pay. Verification is completely optional — it unlocks the ability to contribute to and correct the database, not the ability to use it.
Signing up for Barnlog is quick and easy. Just download the app from the App Store or Google Play, create an account with an e-mail and password or by signing in with Apple or Google, and you're ready to go. You can link additional sign-in methods later from Settings.
The search tab covers five kinds of profile: horses, people, barns, competitions, and venues. Each one has filters so you can narrow a large result set down — for example by discipline, breed, sex, or location.
A horse's profile brings together their competition results, pedigree, offspring and dam line, badges, and photos. Person and barn profiles bring together results, connected horses, and the relationships between them.
Following a horse does three things:
The horses you follow are private to your account. Only you can see them and no one is notified when a horse is followed or unfollowed.
Yes. People can be followed exactly like horses, from the "Follow" button on their profile, and they appear under the "People" tab of your followed list. You'll see their entries and results alongside the horses you follow in every competition they're entered in, and you can watch a person for a single competition in the same way you'd watch a horse.
Like followed horses, the people you follow are private to your account and no one is notified when you follow or unfollow them.
You can follow as many horses as you want. And you may add or remove horses from your following list at any time. Additionally, you may follow horses for a single competition. To distinguish from following a horse, we refer to this as "watching" a horse for a specific competition. You can do this by searching for the horse in the "Horses" tab of the competition, or by going to the horse's profile page and clicking the "Watching Horse in this Competition" button. You may watch as many horses as you want in as many competitions as you want, and unwatch them at any time.
Watching a horse for a specific competition is a way to keep track of a horse's performance in a specific competition. When you watch a horse, you will be notified about the horse's performance in that competition. You can consider following a horse as watching them by default in every competition. Additionally, following a horse will add them to your followed list, which you can access by tapping the "Horses" tab in the app.
You can also watch a single entry from a class's results, which is useful when you want to keep an eye on one horse-and-rider combination without following either of them.
At this time there is no way to watch a horse in a competition that is not in Barnlog. If the competition is in Barnlog but the horse is not, you can add them from the entry in the class's results. Including as much information as possible will help ensure that future competitions will reference the same horse.
Every notification can be turned on or off individually under Settings → Notifications. They're grouped into three categories:
These apply to you, and to the horses and people you follow or watch.
Barnlog does its best to associate horses with competitions automatically, but sometimes there isn't enough information for us to make the match with confidence. When that happens, the entry shows a "Connect Horse" button in the class's results.
Tapping it shows the horses in our database that most closely match the entry. Pick the right one and the entry, along with the rest of that horse's results at the competition, will be linked to their profile. It can take a few hours for every event to update.
Please make sure you're connecting the correct horse. Connecting a horse to an entry cannot be undone from the app — if you make a mistake, email help@barnlog.com and we'll sort it out.
If your horse is competing but isn't yet on Barnlog, find their entry in the results of a competition and tap "Connect Horse". If none of the suggested matches are your horse, choose "Add a new horse to Barnlog" at the bottom of that list.
You'll be asked for the horse's basic details (name, breed, sex, color, height, and date of birth), their sire and dam if they're already in Barnlog, and any registrations, UELN, microchip, brand, or markings you have. All of it beyond the basics is optional, but the more you provide, the more reliably we can match your horse to future competitions.
Once added, it may take up to 24 hours to back-fill results from that competition. Please do not add your horse more than once, as it may cause issues associating results to your horse.
Barnlog does its best to de-duplicate horses in the database. However, if a horse is renamed or information was listed incorrectly, the horse may end up in Barnlog more than once.
You can tell us about it: open either profile, tap the "..." menu in the top right, and choose "Report as duplicate". Our automatic matching system takes it from there and merges the records — you don't need to tell us which profile it's a duplicate of. Tapped it by accident? Cancel the report right from the confirmation that appears.
The same option is available on people, barns, competitions, and venues, so you can report duplicates of any of them the same way.
Yes, if you're verified and connected to the horse, person, or barn in question. Verified users can edit a horse's general details, names, breeding, pedigree, registrations, and connections, as well as their own profile and the barns they're connected to. Open the profile, tap the "..." menu in the top right, and choose "Edit".
Anyone connected to a horse can edit that horse's information and connections, so please only add connections you trust. If a profile is wrong and you aren't able to edit it, email help@barnlog.com.
Verification confirms that you are who you say you are, which is what lets us safely hand out the ability to change the database. Verified accounts can:
To get verified, go to Settings → Verify Identity. There are three steps: confirm your e-mail address with a code, upload a photo of your government-issued ID, and complete the one-time payment. Our team then reviews the submission, so verification isn't instant — you can withdraw a pending request at any time from the same screen.
If you compete, you probably already have a profile in Barnlog built from public results. Go to Settings → Connect Your Profile and search for yourself by name or by a registration number, then tap "Connect to Profile".
Connecting is what ties your account to your results, and it's the starting point for verifying your identity and managing your own horses. If you can't find yourself, email help@barnlog.com.
Verified users can add photos to their own profile, and to the gallery of any horse they're connected to — directly, or through a barn that boards or owns the horse.
When you post a photo you can tag the horses and people in it, and suggest the class it was taken at. The same relationships decide who you can tag: horses and people you're connected to, plus anyone reached through the barns you share. Everyone tagged gets a notification, as do people following a tagged horse, and both can be turned off in your notification settings.
Badges are automatic awards that recognize what a horse has actually achieved in competition. There are three kinds, each with increasing levels:
An "elite performer" is a horse that has competed at the top level of one of their disciplines. You can be notified when a horse you follow earns a new badge or becomes an elite performer.
Everything lives under Settings. From there you can switch the app between light and dark appearance, link or unlink your e-mail, Apple, and Google sign-ins, set or change your password, manage your notifications, connect your profile, verify your identity, and send us feedback.
Go to Settings → Delete Account and confirm with your password. This cannot be undone — you would need to create a new account to continue using the app. Your account may remain in our system for up to 30 days, or longer where the law requires it.
Deleting your account removes your account, not the public competition records Barnlog collects. If you need help, email help@barnlog.com.
If you are having trouble with Barnlog or have other questions or concerns you can email help@barnlog.com and we will do our best to help you. You can also reach us from the app under Settings → Send Feedback.
