Hey Everyone, what is everyone doing as far as a graining program for performance horses? Grain Type? Supplements? Amount? How many times per day fed? Does your horse bleach in the sun? I am slowly doing more and more research on feed and supplements and figuring out what works for some and what doesn't and possibly why!

Christina Parker Our horses are on feed as it applies to their individual situation. Performance horses are currently on a combo of Cavalor and Triple Crown products. As for supplements I prefer Platinum over other general vitamin supplements. Even though their feeds are forti... see morefied the competition horses get that extra boost from Platinum that I find helps the most with body tone and coat. It's hard to prevent bleaching but I find it helps a little. A couple of our performance horses do live out 24/7. From two decades of owning jumpers I have found that Platinum CJ is the only feed through joint supplement with levels to actually support joint health through my own experience. A couple of my horses are on GI supplements for ulcer control and get an extra boost with GastroGard at horse shows. For that I use the Smartpak products. I use Smartpak for muscle and weight gain as well when needed. A product I was just turned onto for coat health is Wellpride Omega fish oil. I fed through to Gwen and she shed out in a matter of days! And she is way less itchy. One horse is susceptible to fungus especially since we moved. Vitamin C nipped that so we don't have to really use any topical fungicide. I think that's it! Retirees are all on carb care senior feed on a regional brand as we enter spring grass time.

Justin Prather We tend to feed a pretty basic complete feed (podium by masterfeeds) as a base for all the horses. From there, the ones that need a bit of weight and a bit of energy get hi pro step right's step 8 feed or soaked beet pulp. The ones that need weight but without... see more energy tend to get rice bran oil. All the horses get soaked flax seeds in the morning to help their coats. It's super simple and makes a huge difference for a lot of the horses. We also tend to use a lot of Myoplast. It's an algae-based and helps horses build muscle more efficiently, for example when rehabbing from an injury or coming back into show season from the winter. Myoplast tends to only be available through a vet though.
At shows, all the horses tend to increase their grain by 5%-10%, as well as electrolytes.
This is for a barn with horses ranging from stay at home lesson guys up to a few fei jumpers
